Better Business Bureau of Delaware Honors 6 with Ethics Awards

Four local companies were honored at the Better Business Bureau’s 44th Annual Dinner on April 22, 2009 at the Hotel DuPont. This year we featured as our keynote speaker Governor Jack Markell.

The four local companies awarded the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics were selected, by a panel, based on criteria that shows a company exhibits high ethical standards of behavior toward customers, suppliers, shareholders, and employees. The 2009 award recipients are All American Roofing & Waterproofing, 1st State Health & Wellness, Associates Graphic Services, and Pro Physical Therapy.

A common characteristic of all the 2009 winners is that they never lose sight of who made them what they are today—their employees, families, the community and their relationships with their customers. These are all essential components of a successful organization.

The BBB also announced the winner of the Annual Edward M. Rush, Sr. Memorial Award. In 1993, the family of Edward M. Rush, Sr., established this award honoring Mr. Rush’s memory for setting high standards for family-owned businesses. The award is given to an outstanding family-owned and operated BBB Accredited Business who also exemplifies the ideals of community and civic service. The award was not announced until the moment it is given. This year, we recognized i.g. Burton Co. David Burton from the Burton family accepted the award on the company's behalf.

In addition, the BBB recognized the winner of the 2009 "Look for the Torch" award. This award is given annually to a company that most comprehensively uses the BBB Torch Logo in their company's advertising and marketing. This year, the BBB honored Tidewater Utilities. Tidewater displays the BBB logo on over 100 company vehicles that traveled 1.8million miles in 2008.
